31 days, post one.. My crazy life..

Joining up with the Nester  for 31 days of Blogging!!

Let me introduce you to the Family..  Elvin and RuthAnn Zimmerman, Kristina 12, Staci 10,
Mitchell 5, Hadassah 3.

Ever have one of those morning where the minute your brain hits 40% function you come to the startling realization that if you don't hit the floor running you wont ever get everything done that's on your to do list for that day??  Well that was me this morning....  Mounds of laundry,
2 dresses and a pair of shoes to sew..
Lunch with my sisters and kids (my kids had no school today)
Photo shoot for my Etsy shop.
I missed my coffee all day!!!

Hadassah is feeling a little under the weather today, but true to her nature she only slowed down a TAD BIT. swinging at my sisters house.

Shingling our porch roof turns into a family affair before dinner..  And no it sure wasn't my idea that the kids all go up there and help!!  But I have learned long ago that Daddies and danger are way more enticing than mom in the kitchen making dinner or folding laundry.. On the upside.. I had a QUIET kitchen all to myself to cook dinner and put clean clothes away.. That's where this post was really written, in the quiet kitchen over the Zimmerman's Monday night dinner

Here are a few shots from the photo shoot that happened at my sister's house with my nephews and nieces!!

Thank you for linking up and following and see you tomorrow!!!

Maturational Losses

Happy Sunday to all of you!
The sounds of Fall are all around me, The leaves are rustling and cicadas are singing as a cool breeze gently floats through the house, As I sit here with my feet propped listening to my husband snore away his Sunday afternoon nap, I try hard not to feel guilty that I am not outside enjoying this beautiful Fall day..
Fall does that to me!! Every beautiful day we have that I don't spend outdoors makes me feel so guilty.. Guilty that I might be wasting the very last nice Sunday afternoon before winter sets in..
This is how the guilt will haunt me:
In a few weeks from now I'll be sitting here in exactly this spot with nasty weather howling outside and I'll say, "oh how I wish we could go outside."
And then a nagging little voice in my head will say. "you had your chance and you stayed on the couch."
And that's how fall turns into winter and I feel a GREAT sense of loss.. But its a maturational loss.. A healthy loss.. it means that time is moving along and I am still here to sing His praises, to do His work regardless the season of life I am in..

We've matured into another loss around here. It's been a rough couple of weeks as sissy adjust to her brother/best friend going to Kindergarten everyday.. She's shed tears almost every morning after we leave him at school,
She has wandered around aimlessly, being bored yet having no interest in anything..
Mitchell didn't go to preschool, always been at home to be her constant companion and playmate from the time we brought her home from the hospital, He has:
  • LOVED her to pieces,
  • cuddled her when she is sad,
  • teased her to tears,
  • taught her EVERYTHING he knows about sword fighting, monster trucks, race cars and countless other boy things.
  • She has sat through numerous reruns of Nascar races with him,
  • climbed into his 'tree stand' to play hunting with him.
and only a VERY few times has she EVER asked him to play baby with her..

So as we settle into our 'school year' routine, I am happy to report that she is finally adjusting.. No she doesn't play swords or monster truck or hunting on her own, She doesn't ask to watch Nascar or Monster Black bear hunting..
She is finding her own self!
She colors,
she cuts,
she glues,
she plays mommy,
she rides her bike,
she naps,
she cuddles the dog,
she makes me playdough birthday cakes,
she shops with mommy,
she does Gym-n-swim with her best friend

SHE'S ADJUSTING!!!!!

And Now Saturdays are her favorite day ever!!! because she gets to play with Brother ALL DAY!

Some items I have added to my Shop this week:

Each of these baby boy shirts match perfectly to this Chevron sibling set

Happy guilt free Autumn, I am off to enjoy the outdoors with the kids!!!

Ruffle Leggings and Ruffle Jumper tutorial

Since school started and Hadassah and I are by ourselves most days, Folks are getting used to seeing me with just one child in tow. The one question I get asked a lot is "Did you make that?" I immediately feel a sense of guilt.. I have an Etsy shop full of Children's clothes and my daughter doesn't even have even one HaddyGrace piece in her closet.. Partly because I am so busy sewing to fill orders that I don't have time to sew for Hadassah and partly because By the time I sew all week I am so tired of seeing the patterns that I don't even care to see my daughter wearing them!
However...

This is what happens when I go to Joanns Fabric with NO KIDS and have time to browse!! The beautiful rows and rows of fabric suddenly start becoming projects in my mind and suddenly I am excited to go home and create!!!
I knew I had a jumper laying in my sewing room just waiting for the right time to be embellished...
I could hardly wait to come home and get started!!!

So here we GOOOOO!!!!!

For the bottom of jumper ruffles:
cut 2 pieces of each color approx. 4 inches wide by 45 inches long

Sew both pieces of fabric into one continuous circle of fabric

Top stitch the seams for a neat finish.

Serge (or Zig zag) the one edge of the circle and hem the other edge.

Draw 2 lines on the skirt bottom.

Pull in the gathers until the ruffles are the correct length to fit on the skirt bottom. Pin the bottom ruffle first onto the skirt bottom.

attach the ruffles to the skirt bottom, doing the bottom one first. I made a mistake and put on the top one first... It really wasn't fun to put on the bottom ruffle..

Now for the ruffle bottom leggings:: I found this gorgeous white knit fabric at my local Joann's Fabric . I was sooo excited to make it into leggings!!

Lay your fabric on fold and lay a pair of leggings on top and cut just a little bigger to allow for seams..

Cut 2 pieces

Cut 2 pieces of each color of fabric, twice as long as the bottom of the legging. Serge or zig-zag both long edges of the strip of fabric.

Hem the bottom of the leggings.

Pull ruffles into the strips until they fit the bottom of the legging and then attach, making sure to do the bottom ruffle first!

TA-DA!!!!!!

Lay the leggings right sides together and pin the seat part and sew both seat seams!

After the seat seams are sewn your leggings will begin to look a bit more like leggings when you lay them like so...

Now sew along the inseam of the leg, making sure to catch the ends of the ruffles.

Ta-Da!!!!

Now sew a casing for the elastic in the waist...
Thread the elastic with this cool threader from Joanns..
Or you can use a safety pin too!! :)

Sew the elastic together and close the opening..

AND VIOLA!!!!!!!  YOU ARE DONE!!!!!!!

Let me know if you have questions!! I will be happy to answer them!!!

Happy Sewing!!!

The Passing of Time

Hello Blogger friends,
Life as usual is pretty wild and crazy around these parts, The 3 oldest are back in school and as Hadassah and I struggle to adjust to the too quiet days and cooler temperatures, I am reminded at how fast time moves. as mothers we control our little universe to a sense, we call the sots and set the schedule.. BUT the one thing we can't do is hold back time... It moves regardless if we are having a moment that counts or a moment that is wasted time... Yesterday's babies go off to kindergarten. Loved ones pass on to Heaven, And sweet little girls turn into preteens with hormonal mood swings and attitudes. Every memory of my Daddy, (gone 8 mo. now) serves as a reminder to me to grasp the moment, to seize the day, and to serve in a more humble, complete, and selfless way! I am under no impression that we were placed on this earth entirely for our own pleasure and enjoyment, But to serve so that we and others might know Him in a more complete and joyful way!!
So dear friend if you find yourself weary in serving today, remember only what is done for Christ will last!
                                              Souls are Eternal

My business continues to grow,  I am continually bombarded with marketing opportunities, and promotional opportunities. In light of the above and the lightening movement of time I am reminded daily that only what is done for Christ will last, and for this reason right now I do turn down majority of promotional opportunities on account of my family needing me so much at this time.  However, Etsy has been wonderful to me, and the few promotions I have done have been a great blessing for our family!!

I have been working on adding Christmas items to my shop and below are 2 of my favorites!!

Blessings to you until next time,
RuthAnn
